When Is the Best Time for a Football Stage in Madrid?
There is no single best month: TSG runs football stages in Madrid all year round, and the right dates depend on what your squad needs from the trip. Pre-season (July and August) suits fitness and squad-building; the autumn and spring in-season windows give the best chance of fixtures against Spanish clubs while they are active; the Christmas, February and Easter breaks fit school and academy calendars; and if you want to combine training with a tournament, competitive weekends cluster around Easter, spring break, the December bank holiday and the summer — so those dates fill first.
Season Windows
The Five Windows of the Year
Each window suits a different objective. Pick by what you want the squad to come home with.
| Window | Best for | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-season July – August | Fitness base, squad bonding, new signings settling in before the season starts. | Madrid's hottest weeks — sessions belong in the morning and evening. Spanish youth clubs return for their own pre-season in August, which reopens fixture options as the month goes on. |
| Autumn in-season September – November | Mid-season training blocks and competitive friendlies against Spanish clubs and academies in full flow. | Mild weather, full local calendar, pitches at their best. Best availability for stages of a week or more. |
| Winter breaks December – February | Short, intense camps over the Christmas holidays or February half-term. | Tournament weekends cluster around the December bank holiday. Cool, mostly dry days — ideal for double sessions. |
| Easter and spring March – April | Combining a training block with a tournament: Easter and spring-break weeks are the busiest tournament windows of the year. | High demand from schools and academies across Europe and the Americas — book early. |
| End of season May – June | Season-closing tours, rewards for the squad, and summer tournament editions. | Warm and dry. The Spanish youth season winds down in June, so plan fixtures for the first half of the window. |
How the Spanish Football Calendar Shapes Your Dates
Most of what makes a Madrid stage valuable — fixtures against Spanish clubs, academies at full strength, a competitive local environment — follows the Spanish season. Knowing its rhythm is the fastest way to choose well.
- Spanish youth clubs generally play their league season from September to June and return for pre-season in August.
- Friendly fixtures are easiest to arrange while local teams are in season — from September to early June.
- Tournament weekends cluster around Easter, spring break, the December bank holiday and the summer.
- TSG's long-stay programmes run from September to May, following the school and academic year.
- Stages themselves run all year: TSG's three Madrid bases operate through every window above.

Madrid's Weather, Season by Season
Madrid has a dry, continental climate: hot summers, cool winters and long, mild springs and autumns. Approximate long-term averages:
| Season | Typical daytime highs | What it means for training |
|---|---|---|
| Summer June – August | Around 28–33 °C, peaking in July and August; very little rain. | Train early and late; midday is for recovery, pool or classroom. Hydration and shade are part of the daily plan. |
| Autumn September – November | Around 26 °C in September, falling to 13 °C by November; occasional rain in October and November. | The most comfortable training weather of the year. Full-length sessions at any time of day. |
| Winter December – February | Around 10–12 °C by day, near freezing at night; mostly dry and sunny. | Cold mornings but rarely wet — good conditions for double sessions with a proper warm-up. |
| Spring March – May | Around 16 °C in March, rising to 24 °C by May; April is the wettest spring month. | Mild and bright. Ideal for the tournament-and-training combinations of Easter and spring break. |
TSG writes the daily programme for each group, so the timetable adapts to the season: 90-minute sessions in the cooler slots in summer, and the long mild days of spring and autumn used in full.

How Far Ahead Should You Book?
Stages are built around your dates, not around fixed departures. Lead times reflect how long it takes to secure the base, the fixtures and the activities you choose.
- Stages and short programmes: a minimum of 6–8 weeks before travel.
- Stages combined with a tournament: earlier — tournaments have their own registration deadlines, which close well before the event.
- Long-stay programmes (School, Gap Year, University): 3–6 months, to allow for admissions and travel paperwork.
- Easter, spring break and the summer are the first windows to fill; the autumn and winter windows offer the most flexibility.
- Send your dates and squad size and you receive a full, itemised proposal, normally within 48 hours.
